I have one of these hand held radios and there is an "E" that is
flashing on the top, left of the screen and it keeps it from accepting
any other key strokes. You can enter a new frequency, but you can not
save it and lock the keyboard.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Try a re-set: Turn radio off, press and hold the volume knob and
the Monitor button while turning the radio on. This is advice from
the Vertex VXA300 manual.
Good luck

My model did have a CPU set sequence a little different than yours,
but you gave me the right clue. Thanks, Fred
